Doesn’t everyone love Jan Brett’s classic The Mitten? It has always been a personal favorite of mine since we wrote author letters in second grade and Jan Brett wrote back. I felt so special having her autograph!
The Mitten was my introduction to her beautiful illustration style. Her folk illustrations reminded me of my mom’s Dala horse collection. I wanted to grow up and be just like her. I took to adding elaborate borders to my drawings.
For the next month I will be sharing a character ball set to tell the story of The Mitten. The animals all fit snugly in the mitten and will really fly when the mitten is flipped inside out.
Week by week I will share another character and will link them all up when finished. We’ll start with the big mitten.
